Nagpur: Established on the day of Makar Sankranti, 14 January 1923, the Vidarbha Sahitya San (VSS) is the patron body of all Marathi literary groups across Vidarbha and celebrates its 100th anniversary on Saturday. Apart from the annual anniversary celebrations and celebrations of the various literary award winners, the VSS held a number of literary events to mark the occasion.
One of the city’s finest collections of multilingual books, the VSS Library hosted an exhibition of Marathi books on the environment. “Environmental conservation is a trend today, and Marathi authors have written extensively on this issue over the years. , you can find a series of books about the culture of nature worship,” said Dilip Mhaisalkar, head of the VSS library. Hundreds of books are on display, some of which were printed in his 19th century. The aim, Mysarkar said, is to attract new generations to the library.
VSS’s annual Poster Poetry Project featured English, Marathi and Hindi poems by Neha Bhandarkar. “I consider myself fortunate that the poems of great poets such as Suresh Bhat, Aruna Dhere and Prafull Shiledar have been previously exhibited in this section. We have won many international awards and recognition, but the appreciation from the people of my city takes us to new heights,” said Vanderker.
During the 100th anniversary, Dr. Archana Chowdhury’s commentary in Marathi on Sri Aurobindo’s English epic ‘Savitri’ was the most popular event of VSS. All 12 of his lectures given by Dr. Chowdhury have been compiled in book form and published again this week on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
“After 100 years, the VSS library aims to connect with other languages as well. We are already obsessed with Hindi and English. Going forward, we will try to connect other regional languages to VSS through the library.” said Mhaisalkar. There are many new projects in the pipeline aimed at attracting younger generations to libraries, he said.
