hours after searching for 6 year old girl missingAn agent on the autism spectrum near West Palm Beach made a heartbreaking discovery in the waters behind her home.
Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Timberline neighborhood to search for Alena Fennells, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Her mother told WPTV that her daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and has no verbal skills, left home when she went to get her daughter’s pajamas while she was taking a bath.
Saranity Delker said, “There was a sense of hopelessness in the air, and I knew something unexpected had happened.
Neighbors joined law enforcement in the two-hour search. Lillian Silva has two young children and lives by a lake, so the incident happened close to home.
“Usually they don’t play around the lake. We don’t allow them,” Silva said. “But even more so after this. The lake is deep, and he is afraid he will fall into it.”
Delker, a neighbor down the street, said he used the incident as a lesson for himself and his 2-year-old.
“This can happen to anyone,” Delker said. “This was a human error and something that no one could have prepared for, but to know what’s going on, extra locks, whatever you need, cameras, etc., extra steps. I think it’s just a matter of stepping on
