Farmington Hills, Michigan – It’s been a little over a week since that winter storm that upset many families. Sadly, some people are still feeling the effects.
Residents of Village Oaks Apartments Farmington Hills Living in the aftermath of a burst pipe – a nightmare that’s been going on ever since Christmas.
“The hallway was flooded and water was coming out of the light bulbs,” said a current resident who requested anonymity. “Since then it’s just a fan. At least clean the carpet. Just the fan and the paint. It’s like a musty smell.”
The problem was so severe that some residents, like Carla and Vince Calafelli, ended up moving in with their then-1-year-old child.
“Water went through the ceiling fan and created a hole in the ceiling,” Carla Calaferi said. “There’s about two to three inches of standing water that came down the stairs.”
They say their apartment suffered the worst damage because the second rupture was right under the pipe.
“When our landlord came, he sent a crew member to bring a blower. They said the reason the pipe burst was because it wasn’t insulated and there was no heat in the laundry room.” I said,” said Carla Calaferi.
The Calafelli’s final straw came when they realized that the wall was painted with mold and other hazards that they believed could harm their then-son. claims.
“We didn’t want him around that musky and musty smell because there’s no room there,” said Vince Calaferi. “We had to move a lot of stuff into our own bedrooms and hallways.”
Unfortunately they had to throw away many items. But others still living in the complex hope and pray that change will happen soon.
“New carpet for the hallway,” said a woman who wished to remain anonymous. “They need to get new drywall and make sure it’s something like mildew proof. please do.”
