Housing is a big issue, but recently the Housing Redevelopment Authority has been working on an affordable Duluth housing project. and come to Duluth for people with disabilities. Jill Keppers, executive her director of the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority, further explained her upcoming affordable Duluth housing.
“You know, there is such a need in our area. Homeless numbers continue to rise. It’s great for helping with ,” Cappers said. “All 100 funded units are affordable housing units, meaning that in every unit, people pay 30% of their income as rent. It’s a big win for our community. It’s a very competitive process.Only two projects have received funding in Northeast Minnesota this year.”
One of the projects is in Wadena West at Downtown Housing, about 60 units of affordable Duluth housing for people experiencing homelessness. The other is a 34-unit townhome residential and redevelopment in the family-friendly Harbor Highlands. There is affordable Duluth housing for people with disabilities, and assistive housing for those experiencing homelessness and low-income households.
“So the rent here in Duluth is comparable to the rent in the twin cities, and we know that the building costs the same as the rent in the twin cities, but the income just isn’t keeping up.” The Duluth Housing Redevelopment Authority also works to maintain affordable Duluth housing units.
“Thus, the Housing Redevelopment Authority has been able to get $150,000 to help low- and middle-income homeowners switch from fuel oil to natural gas within the next year, or their leaded To help replace service lines,” Keppers said. The Duluth Housing Redevelopment Authority hopes to begin this spring on the 70-unit Affordable Duluth Housing Project funded last year. They plan to start this current project a year from now.
