Lubbock, Texas – A few weeks ago, 11-year-old Jude Porras had her special needs tricycle stolen. It was the only bike he felt comfortable riding, and when it was gone, he was left devastated.
“He went looking for it, he went to look behind the driveway, he went to look behind the tree like it broke my heart because he was so sad. I just wanted to ride and my bike was stolen, my bike was stolen and I’m so sad,” said Roxane Martinez, Jude’s mom.
Jude has autism and finds comfort in biking around his neighborhood on a daily basis. So when AMBUCS heard about Jude, he knew he had to help.
“My son Josh, who is a member, texted me and said, ‘Dad, you won’t believe what happened.’ doing. That’s what we are all about, it tore me apart. I immediately reached out to his Ambility team and asked, “Do you have a truck for this kid?” Bobby Saunders, President of Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS, said:
Lubbock Caprock and Monterey AMBUCS have teamed up to create a tricycle just right for Jude’s needs.
“You can see that there is an upper body harness that keeps him from rocking from side to side, there is a safety belt, and there is an adjustable seat rod that allows him to move the entire seat forward. , the seat can move backwards,” Sanders said.
Martinez said Jude has already done a few laps around the neighborhood in his new favorite vehicle.
“When he first saw the bike, he smiled and said, ‘I got it!’ , I was so excited when I saw my name,” Martinez said.
Martinez said the tricycle was an upgrade from an older one that had been stolen.
“This is an adaptive treatment trike that fits his body much better than a stolen one. So I’m not thanking any respectable Lubbock citizen for getting me a trike, but it comes with a strong lock.” You’re going to have a hard time getting your hands on a trike because there’s so much going on,” Sanders said.
The tricycle was given to Jude at the Caprock AMBUCS basketball tournament.
