Avon Lake, Ohio – Forgive Kaidin Luzner, an eighth grader at Learwood Middle School, feeling a little, well, rhapsodistic about her recent language challenge.
Kaidin decided to honor the late Freddie Mercury, known for iconic songs like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as part of the school’s Living Wax Museum on Friday (January 27).
“I chose Freddie Mercury because I admired him,” Kaidin said. “He’s done a lot of very unique things in his life. Queen is my favorite band.”
Kaidyn is a member of Elizabeth Moffat’s English Language Arts class. According to a news release from the Avon Lake City School, Moffat’s students selected individuals to conduct the survey who exhibited qualities such as bravery, courage, determination and compassion.
They were individually dressed and had monologues ready to share with guests. Among the wax figures were Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Muhammad Ali, Princess Diana and Rosa Parks. was included.
Students also answered questions about their lives, according to the news release.

“I chose Muhammad Ali because I love boxing,” Luke said.
Carmen McMinn wore Abraham Lincoln’s famous tall top hat, 16th President of the United States.
“I chose Abraham Lincoln because I thought he was very interesting. A lot of my school projects this year revolve around Abraham Lincoln,” Carmen said.
Robin Fahlich also brought to life another American hero, Alexander Hamilton, an army officer, politician, and founding father.
“I chose Alexander Hamilton because he was a nice guy. I also saw Hamilton’s musical and loved it,” Robin said.
Avon Middle School Artist Gets Praise

The 55th Annual Regional Scholastic Art Show, sponsored by Nordson, is currently on display at the Stocker Art Center at Lorraine County Community College in Elyria. The show will feature hundreds of works from his 7th grade through her 12th grade students in Lorraine, Huron, and Erie counties.
According to an Avon Local School news release, several Avon Middle School students have won honors at the show.
Grade 8 Celeste Gorski won the Silver Key, and Millicent (Millie) Schwartz (Grade 7), Reagan Fennell (Grade 7), Madelyn Kitchen (Grade 8) and Brooke Heinrich (Grade 8) were honored.
The art teachers at Avon Middle School are Stacy Sislo and John Yagoda.

A second community forum to discuss the proposed Avon Lake City school facilities project will be held on February 23 at 6:30 PM at Avon Lake High School Commons (175 Avon Belden Road).
