TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Bahadur, a disabled man who wanted to become a doctor, was unable to realize his dream due to recent conflicts and now lives a disabled life.
In Afghanistan, we have stories of every family falling victim to conflict. Bahadur is one of his family members who was recently injured when a mortar shell landed on his house.
He lost his sister in the incident, his mother was injured and Bahadur lost both legs.
Bahadur says: As a result, one of his sisters died, her mother was seriously injured, and I was also injured in the leg area. When I was transferred to a local hospital, the doctor found there was no way to treat the wound on my leg. Later, after being unconscious for several hours, I woke up to find that I had lost my leg and was crippled in my bed. “
Bahadur complained about his family’s deteriorating financial situation, stating: However, in order to support my family by asking people for help, on odd days I manage to work and earn a living for my family, but there are days when I go home empty-handed. “
Bahadur, who was war-torn as a teenager, wants lasting peace and stability in the country and hopes there will be no future conflicts.
Bahadur’s mother, Korsam, told Pajwok Afghan News during a phone conversation that her daughter died two years ago when a mortar shell hit their home.
“I was injured and the courtyard was completely destroyed. I was in the hospital with my sons. With the help of outsiders, other children were rescued from smoke and debris.”
She acknowledged that her family of eight members received support from outside organizations, but stressed that the courtyard destroyed by mortar shells needs to be repaired by the current government. .
She said her husband injured his leg and eye in the incident and lost the ability to work.
She lamented that Bahadur would no longer be able to receive an education, adding that he had now transferred to another place where he attended school.
She requested support from aid agencies and stressed that she would do everything in her power to make Bahadur’s dream come true.
Bahadur is not the only casualty of war in Takhar these days, but like him, thousands of other people have fallen victim to war in Takhar province and are asking the government for help.
