Lahore: A large number of poets, writers, intellectuals, professors, journalists and scholars attended the third and final day of the 32nd Waris Shah International Conference on Peace and Literature, hosted here by the World Punjab Congress. The main theme of the conference was Waris Shah and Punjabi literature on promoting peace.
The chairman of the World Punjab Congress, Fakhar Zaman, has called on the governments of Pakistan and India to allow intellectuals, scholars, Punjabi writers and poets across the border to participate in such conferences.
The World Punjabi Congress will hold its 33rd international conference next March. Fakhar Zaman expects more than 100 of his delegates from around the world to attend. Medals of appreciation were awarded to those who actively participated in the dissemination of the Punjabi language and culture and to the volunteers who helped organize the conference. Punjab His Mushairah was also held. The declaration states that Punjabi should be the language of instruction in all schools in Punjab starting from primary school and compulsory up to graduation level. Punjab is not accepted and March 14th should be celebrated as Punjabi Culture Day at the government level and Punjabi should be recognized as the official language of Punjab, plus Sindhi, Baloch and Pashto , All languages spoken in Pakistan, including Punjabi, must be recognized as the national language of Pakistan.There were several important demands.
