PLAINVILLE, Connecticut (WPRI) — A Connecticut family has new tenants living in their backyard.
Vincent Dashukewich says he let his dog outside his Plainville home when suddenly he started growling at something under the porch.
That something turned out to be a giant black bear that had been hibernating under our backyard deck for about a week.
Dashukewich posted a bear they called “Marty” on social media and received mixed reactions from viewers.
“Half of the people were the scariest thing ever, and the other half were like, ‘Can you pet me, I’m so sorry,'” he said. is cute.”
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told families to leave the bear alone.
“He was very cool. I went to check on him a few times and he really wasn’t moving,” Dashkewich said. “He’s seen me a few times, but he’s very calm now.”
If the bear becomes a problem, officials said crews will come and remove the bear from the property.
