PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — Staff at Florida Atlantic University want to raise awareness about resources available to parents who have a child on the autism spectrum.
tuesday night, The body of Alena Fennells, a missing 6-year-old girl, was found in the water behind her home in the Timberline neighborhood near West Palm Beach.
The FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disorders says it works to meet the special needs of children when families enroll.
They provide families with safety kits and electronic tracking bracelets for children that broadcast a traceable radio frequency if the child goes missing.
Law enforcement was able to find a child wearing a bracelet in 15 to 20 minutes, helping with 4,000 searches, Jack Scott, executive director of the FAU’s center, told WPTV.
“It keeps ringing, but parents need to call the school or their caregiver,” he said. “They say ‘My code is x’ and the police can dial in and track the child. It’s a relatively simple technology, but it’s very robust and robust.
