IEP basics
The IEP Training Fundamentals will be held online on January 9, 2023 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. This training covers the basics of an Individualized Education Program (IEP): purpose, content, how to develop it, and how to understand the documentation. This training has it all.
Joining FCSC Dr. Susan Thomas, retired educator and former director of special education, shares her extensive experience and knowledge of IEPs. At the conclusion of this training, participants will:
- Understand the purpose of an IEP
- Identify components needed for IEP design and development
- Identify quality indicators for well-developed IEPs,
- Understand the documentation to measure the success of your IEP.

SC Parent and Caregiver Call to Action: Do You Want to Change the Special Education Policy? Are you the parent/guardian of a school-aged student with a disability in South Carolina? Register to attend exclusive advocacy training and focus groups.
After registration is complete, additional information including pre-research and details to attend one of two in-person trainings on January 20, 2023 (10am-4:30pm) or May 15-16 will be available. will be contacted. 2023 (2 days, 10am-2pm). All participants will receive two $25 gift cards upon completion of the training and final survey. Participants will participate in a free 6-hour training to learn more about the People with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and legislative advocacy, participate in a focus group on special education advocacy, and complete three surveys to document the effectiveness of their training. to create a video. Support parent training
Support Parent Training will be held online on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST. Parents/Caregivers in South Carolina are invited to join FCSC on this Support Parent Saturday for an interactive workshop that provides 4 hours of evidence-based training… effective parents. The goal of the Support Parent Program is to educate, inspire and empower parents and their children to live rich and fulfilling lives in the face of many challenges. As a Family Connection representative, Support Her Parent provides emotional support and information to families of individuals with disabilities and other special needs. Support Parents connect with other families by phone or email and provide a safe listening environment where they can provide a wealth of information to other families. All participants who complete the training will receive a certificate as well as skills development and volunteer opportunities during her one-year commitment to FCSC.
