Fear of failure is a fear that all of us have had or still have at some point in our lives. It is a common theme in literature because it is a universal emotion that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. This fear can manifest in many ways, including fear of being judged, fear of not being good enough, or fear of not achieving one’s goals.

An example of the fear of failure can be found in Shakespeare’s works, especially in the play “Hamlet”. In the play, Hamlet’s character is full of self-doubt and fears that he will not be able to avenge his father’s death. He struggles with the fear of not living up to the expectations placed on him, and this fear ultimately leads to his downfall.

Another example of the fear of failure is found in Harper Lee’s novel Kill a Mockingbird. In this novel, Atticus Finch’s character faces the horror of not being able to defend black Tom Robinson, who is falsely accused of rape. Atticus knows he is in trouble and that he may not be able to save Tom, but he is determined to do what he can.

Fear of failure is also a central theme in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. In this novel, the main character, Jay Gatsby, is driven by a fear of failure and a desire to succeed. Though he is determined to achieve his goals and prove himself to those around him, his fears ultimately lead to his downfall.

Fear of failure is also a common theme in JD Salinger’s work, especially in the novel The Catcher in the Rye. In this novel, the main character, Holden Caulfield, constantly struggles with the fear of failure and the fear of not doing well enough. He constantly seeks approval and validation from those around him, but his fear of failure holds him back and prevents him from achieving his goals.

One recent example of the fear of failure can be found in Suzanne Collins’ popular novel The Hunger Games. In this novel, the main character, Katniss Everdeen, is chosen to participate in the brutal and deadly competition, The Hunger Games. She fears failure and not being able to survive the game, but in the end she overcomes her fear and becomes a symbol of hope and rebellion.

In conclusion, fear of failure is a universal emotion that has been explored in literature for centuries. Whatever the fear of unattainment, this fear can hold back individuals and prevent them from reaching their full potential. However, as these examples demonstrate, it is possible to overcome this fear and achieve success despite the challenges you may face along the way.
