Kehinde Osiraja, convener of the Kehinde Osiraja Foundation, called on citizens to jointly support persons with disabilities in various communities instead of leaving it to the government alone.
Osiraja made the call during a Christmas event organized for over 500 people with disabilities from five Lagos state departments and 57 municipalities and council development areas, according to a statement on Sunday.
He said, “Christmas parties weren’t about drinking wine and eating. There was also networking and empowerment for people with disabilities and their families, and even entertainment for children.” More importantly, it was to prove to the whole world that disability is capable.
“I would like to encourage my physically challenged colleagues to encourage self-generation and self-reliance and not rely on alms-begging at all. I urge you to stand up and put all the burden on the government alone.”
In a sermon, Barriga, Samuel Olusegun, pastor of Christ’s Apostolic Church, advised well-meaning citizens to understand that giving and helping others is rewarding.
“Being a giver has implications and rewards. I would like to tell Nigerians to always reach out to people with disabilities and stop disrespecting them as if they didn’t exist,” he said. Told.
