American Legion learns about fraud prevention
We’ve all seen TV ads where homeowners sell or steal their homes unknowingly through fraud.
On December 27, Marco Island’s American Legion Post 404 learned of a free county service that helps prevent such fraud. Crystal Kinsel, Clerk and Comptroller of the Circuit Court, Collier, visited the meeting and discussed her responsibilities in an informative presentation.

Part of that presentation was to inform members about the new Risk Alert Notification System established by Collier County to help property owners monitor their property records for fraudulent activity.
Property owners can register through the Clerks website. collierclerk.com will send an email alert whenever a document, such as a deed, mortgage or lien, is recorded in the official records of the Secretariat that matches the participant’s criteria. She encourages everyone to take advantage of this free service.
American Legion Post 404 usually meets at 11:00 am on the third Tuesday at Marco Lutheran Church, but for the next two months (January and February) it will meet on the fourth Tuesday.
All veterans are invited to attend these monthly meetings to hear informative presentations and share a free lunch with fellow veterans.

Real ID Deadline Delayed (again)
In December, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would extend the Real ID deadline for another two years, delaying implementation until May 7, 2025 (the law was previously set for May 3). .
Real ID passed Congress in 2005 and aims to establish minimum security standards for state-issued identification documents such as driver’s licenses. When the law takes effect, travelers will be required to present a compliant ID to board an airplane.
Real ID compliant documents have a gold or black star in the top center of the card, or a gold or black circle outlining the star. California uses a gold bear with a star cutout.

Didn’t 2022 have enough destruction for you?
There’s a new app that lets you see what would happen if your home were hit by an asteroid.
A new web app, Asteroid Launcher, gives people the chance to see the effects of an asteroid hitting somewhere on Earth.
This app was created by Neal Agarwal.
Choose the type of asteroid that will hit Earth: Rock, Iron, Carbon, Gold, or Comet. Second, asteroid sizes range from 3 feet to 1 mile in diameter. The user can also change the impact speed from 1,000 miles per hour to 250,000 miles per hour. The final thing to adjust is the asteroid impact angle, from 5 degrees to 90 degrees.
Once you have selected the asteroid, select where you want it to collide on the world map. You can zoom in and out on the map and select your home, business, or any location to center your impact zone.
Download the app at neal.fun/asteroid-launcher/.
