Free Innovative Pilot Program for Adult Students Age 18-24 with Intellectual Disabilities
Brookdale Community College, Monmouth County’s ARC, Voyagers Community School, provides adult students ages 18-24 with intellectual disabilities a robust and balanced classroom learning experience in school, free is proud to announce an innovative pre-vocational program. Life, consumer and employment skills, self-advocacy, healthy habits, financial literacy and innovative use of technology. The grant was funded through the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education through the County College-based Adult Transition Program Center.
Starting in late January 2023, TAZ (The Achievement Zone) Plus will help students pursue their goals, clarify their plans, and prepare them for the next step as adults. Program offerings focus on career preparation and job coaching through mini-lessons and group projects targeting a variety of vocational skills. Each student considers milestones towards successful employment.
At a conference at Brookdale Community College, attendees participate in activities and experiences that enhance and reinforce:
- soft skills and career skills
- self-awareness and career awareness
- Understand the practical steps of job preparation
- Professionalism and readiness.
Participants acquire specific professions and job-specific skills.
