World No. 2 Brendan Lawler hails the start of the G4D Open as “great news” for golfers with disabilities.
From May 10th to 12th, up to 80 players will take part in the inaugural event over 54 holes at Woburn’s Dutchess Course.
“Unbelievable,” Lawler said. “This is great news for golf and we hope to see more history made in the week.
“We have done it several times as golfers, including being the first disabled player to play on the 2019 European Challenge Tour and the 2020 DP World Tour. bottom.
“Winning this new championship would be just as big in my eyes.”
The event was launched by The R&A, whose Chief Executive Martin Slumbers added: Sports.
“The World Health Organization says 1 in 6 people have a disability, so we want to show that golf is open to everyone, regardless of ability.
“We can do this by recognizing the exceptional skills of golfers who are role models to inspire more men, women and young people to take up the sport through their achievements on the course.”
