Phase 1 of the Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities program will begin on January 1st.
A new state government program was announced on December 15th. This is an income assistance program specifically designed for people with disabilities.
Prior to this, people with disabilities had to apply for financial assistance through Employment and Income Assistance (EIA). The new program was created by popular request.
Customers who enroll in this program have access to the same financial, health, and other benefits available to EIA customers. You will also be given a treasurer assigned to issue monthly benefits, an increase of about $100 per month, laundry and phone allowances, and the ability to earn up to $12,000 annually before your benefits are impacted.
Clients also retain access to health insurance for up to two years after file closure.
Enrollment in this program opens on January 1st and Manitoba is currently taking an EIA through the “Disabled” category in one of three prescribed classes.
– Persons receiving services from Community Living Disabled Persons Service;
– People living in personal care homes; and
• Persons receiving disability benefits from the Canada Pension Plan.
All other Manitobas will be able to apply to the program beginning April 1, 2023. A centralized intake and financial assessment determines whether people are eligible to participate.
