The Okanagan Humane Society plans to help more than 1,400 animals in 2021 and break that record in 2022, the association said in a media release on Friday.
The charity says it is seeing a surge in animals in need of help in the Okanagan Valley in 2022 and is responding to all requests it can, thanks to support from the community.
A network of about 130 foster homes and 23 affiliated veterinary hospitals from Osoyoos to Shuswap help care for the animals, according to the association.
“Numbers increased in all areas of our activity, including a 42 percent increase in rescue programs, a 16 percent increase in pet assistance programs, including low-cost sterilization and neutering, and a 31 percent increase in adoptions. ‘, said President Romany Runnals.
The association has a network of foster care professionals who care for nearly 200 animals at any one time, and believes that number will be the same or more in 2023, the release said.
“We receive no government funding and rely on community support, with the exception of the BC Community Gaming Grant,” said Marni Adams, Fund Development Advisor for the Association. .
“The generosity of our community and supporters has enabled us to meet the needs despite the huge increase we have seen.
The association will issue instant charity tax receipts via email for online donations at okanaganhumanesociety.com.
