We all know people with disabilities. It could be family, friends, people you work with, people you went to school with, or even yourself. Living with a disability can be tough, but with the right accommodations, life doesn’t have to be the hardest road. Where you live often determines how difficult it is for some people with disabilities to get around. Some towns are well accommodated, others have work to do. When it comes to living in Idaho, are our cities accommodating enough for people with disabilities?
The best and worst cities for disabled people

WalletHub recently released a list ranking the best cities for people with disabilities using several categories including economy, quality of life and healthcare. Minneapolis was determined to be the best city for people with disabilities, with Pittsburgh and St. Louis in the top three. Of 182 possible cities, Gulfport, Mississippi is the worst place to live for people with disabilities, with Mobile, Alabama and Tallahassee, Florida rounding out the bottom three.
Is Idaho suitable for living with a disabled person?

If you live in Idaho with a disability, we encourage you to consider another state. Gemstate has two cities in which he ranks, Boise being his 124th, where he ranks highest of the two cities, and Nampa, which ranks him 167th out of his 182nd. Boise ranks 133rd in economy, 132nd in quality of life, and 59th in health care. Nampa is economy 129, quality of life 153, health care 126. All categories in the two cities are below 100, except for Boise Healthcare. Being able to move out of Idaho could be an option to consider if you have a disability, and it could improve your quality of life.

There are many factors that determine what makes a city truly suitable for living with a disability, but this list does not consider the different types of disabilities and their potential. Boise may be a better place for some, thanks to support systems and doctors, and living in Nampa may be what families need financially. Regardless of your disability or anyone who knows someone with a disability, as long as they can get the care they need and the support and love they need, this list will have so much impact on life in Idaho. You shouldn’t.
