Huidobro was born on January 10, 1893 in Santiago, Chile, into a wealthy family. He received a traditional education before moving to Europe to study literature and art.
Widbro’s poetry career took off in earnest in Paris, where he was part of a group of writers and artists known as the ‘Generation of 1914’. He published his first collection of poems, Eco, in 1916, and published several more poems throughout his career.
