Mangaluru: Konkani magazines and periodicals have contributed significantly to the growth of Konkani literature, says editor and publisher of Veez Konkani, a single digitally illustrated Konkani magazine published weekly for five years from Chicago. One Dr. Austin Prabhu said:
At the ceremony to present the ‘Arso Journalism Award 2022’ to Konkani’s senior journalist Avil Lasquinha, Dr. Prabhu said, “Konkani journalism has 110 years of history. The efforts of the editors and publishers are commendable.Arso has done a great job by awarding senior Konkani journalists with journalism awards.Recognizing senior journalists as well as younger and future Konkani journalists should be recognized and commended.”
Abu Dhabi-based Indian entrepreneur CA Valerian D’Almeida has presented Clive D’Souza Borje with the ‘Leo Rodriguez Family Kitor Youth Award 2022’ on behalf of the Leo Rodriguez family.
He thanked NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Leo Rodriguez for his contribution and support to the growth of Konkani language, literature, art, music and culture in India and abroad. Dalmeida has known Rodriguez since his school days.
He also stressed the need for applied media education and urged journalists to focus on villages where many talented young people are growing.
Senior banker Steven Pinto and educator Oswald Rodriguez were among the guests of honor.
HM Pernal, editor and publisher of Kittall.com. Arso editor Wilson Cathir. Poet and thinker Titus Noronha, Chairman of the Noronha Prize Selection Committee, also took the stage.
The ceremony was attended by many Konkani writers, artists, supporters of Arso and Kittall, and the families of the winners.
