A Leesburg man faces arraignment on Feb. 6 for allegedly having sex with a 20-year-old woman with severe autism.
The woman was taken to Advent Health Waterman Hospital by 62-year-old David Galley and another person whose identity was not disclosed in the arrest report. When the victim was introduced to medical staff just before midnight on January 13, they were told the autistic woman was trying to harm herself and said she wanted to die. He took action and said he was worried the woman was pregnant. He told the medical staff that he had had sex with the woman. He then said, “He was sorry because he knew he was going to hell,” according to the arrest report.
A hospital security guard was called to the emergency room to meet with Garay, who admitted to having sex with a disabled woman. When faced with a possible sex crime, security guards followed hospital protocol by calling the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and dispatching a deputy to the hospital.
The lieutenant met with the medical staff and they told him what they knew about the incident. When her lieutenant spoke with the victim, she had difficulty communicating with her, apparently due to her declining mental capacity. She was able to tell her agent that they had sex several times and that Garai called what they did “give her a D”. Another person identified said the conduct took place while on duty.
Witness 1 said he didn’t know what happened, but said he saw the victim try to grab Garay by the groin more than once, saying “Give me a D.”
When a deputy tried to question Garay about his remarks to hospital staff, the New York native refused to discuss the matter.
Garay was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a disabled adult and lewd or lewd assault on a disabled adult. He is being held in the Lake County Jail without bail.
