Sweet scents are in the air ahead of Valentine’s Day as the Stephens County Genealogical Society is recruiting talented bakers and candy makers across the county.
According to Jan Cole, the pre-Valentine’s Day event will be on February 11th from 1-3pm at the First United Methodist Church and will include a sweets tasting.
“Candy makers and bakers from all regions are invited to participate in the fun and competition with candy or dessert samples (1-inch by 1-inch samples),” she said. “If it’s an international or heirloom recipe, extra points are given.”
Cole said they plan to offer 20 tables with nearly 200 samples of various treats.
“Merchants and individuals are invited to participate by donating teams, sponsoring bakers with $100 to use on ingredients, or buying blocks of 24 tickets at $10 each. she said. “Organizations are given sponsorships.”
Event treats are judged by a panel of celebrity judges, with prizes awarded for table decoration and presentation.
Funds raised at this event will help the Stephens County Genealogical Library purchase a security light system.
