Around 2:30 am on Monday, a man walking through a subdivision in Brownstown Township caused concern and was eventually arrested after police found a hidden weapon in him.
According to Township Police, the department received a call suggesting a suspicious person in the area.
Lt. Andrew Starzek said several people were alerted by motion detectors on home security devices.
Police said a 24-year-old Gibraltar resident was distributing anti-Semitic documents throughout the Whispering Woods lot.
“It was a questionable situation,” Starzek said. “Nobody should go out to hand out documents at 2:30 am.”
Starzek said their intention was to investigate questionable behavior, not to participate in discussions about whether what he was distributing represented hate speech or free speech. rice field.
While talking to the man, police discovered he had a carver knife.
Starzec says the blades on these knives are often around 10 inches and are military style knives.
They also considered combat knives.
The man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge for possessing a military knife without a license, police said.
The man was arrested without incident.
He gave police no explanation as to what he was doing or what he was trying to achieve.
One resident said she found the package on her porch, as did others.
She said she didn’t want to open it all the way.
Her husband sealed it in a plastic bag.
“I didn’t want to touch it,” said the woman, who said she feared being identified. “I have lived here for 22 years and have never seen anything like this before. We have a very diverse community and everyone gets along. In the video, there’s a guy doing a Nazi salute before leaving the yard. It’s stupid.”
She said the incident was particularly disturbing for people with children on the subdivision.
The information in the packet seems rambling about non-American free speech and how they target “uninformed” and “duped” people.
The information also said it was ridiculous to think they were operating “on the orders of George Soros or other money-making manipulators.”
Police also said they did not know why the man chose this lot outside his own community.
