Secretary of State Antony J. Brinken yesterday met in Cairo with a diverse group of Egyptian civil society members, in line with the US commitment to protect human rights globally. The Secretary welcomed the opportunity to hear about the important work of these individuals in advancing fundamental freedoms in Egypt. He reaffirmed the importance of human rights in U.S. foreign policy, underscored U.S. steadfast support for human rights defenders, and pledged that the U.S. will continue to engage closely with Egyptian civil society.
