JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Social Affairs showcased the possibilities and activities of people with disabilities at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (HDI) Expo 2022.
Minister for Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini said: Friday’s event was the peak of a series of activities held to celebrate the day, which began on December 3, 2022.
“We will not celebrate this as a ceremony, but we will truly implement it, helping our peers with disabilities to work and continue to live better lives. That’s what we are campaigning for,” the minister said here on Friday.
At the event, Risma Harini also said, passen A (wooden restraint) for the disabled found in some parts of Indonesia.
She said the Ministry of Social Affairs is working with the National Board of Persons with Disabilities to realize the rights of people living with disabilities.
“This ceremony is to support their work,” she said.
In some parts of Indonesia, people with disabilities make products that are more competitive than others. However, their disability prevents them from selling their product properly.
The minister said he believed the results would be optimal by selling the products online.
“So we teach them how to trade electronically, so their sales and works are no longer limited[by boundaries],” she added.
During the exhibition, many products and services devised by people with disabilities, such as meals and massage services, were exhibited. The minister also provided assistance in the form of electric wheelchairs.
Meanwhile, disabled people also dabbled in the arts, performing in musical groups and performing traditional dances.
The event was also enhanced by the auction of 60 paintings created by people with disabilities, conducted by Minister Riz Mahalini.
In December 2022, the Ministry of Social Affairs conducted activities to mark the International Day, distributing aid worth Rp33.2 billion.
