Part of her defense was that she intended murder-suicide because Jordan had taken some drugs and had reportedly sent emails to relatives who had alerted authorities. claimed to have used a laptop to withdraw $125,000 from his autistic son’s trust fund when he was dying, the New York Daily News reported.

Jordan was sentenced to 18 years in prison for manslaughter, but in 2020 a federal judge in Manhattan granted bail while she continues her appeal for retrial.

The lower court argued that Jordan’s Sixth Amendment right to a public trial was not violated.

“At some point during the two-month trial, the court of first instance decided to spend about 15 minutes to listen to a discussion of the petitioner’s website and emails, which the court accused of undermining the fairness of the trial. did not open the court to the public,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office wrote to the Supreme Court last month. “The only impact of the closed-door proceedings was that when the courts reopened, the courts reiterated their previous instructions to jurors not to consume media coverage of the trials.
