PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) – The Oregon Humane Society’s New Action and Rescue Center welcomed its first group of shelter pets.
The center’s goal is to help animals with trauma and other behavioral problems prepare for adoption.
The facility is specifically designed with animal mental health in mind, and cats and dogs receive professional care from their trainers.
The director of training and behavior says they’re already noticing a difference.
“We have a spacious and beautiful cat area that allows the cats to move more freely. “We came out in front of our kennels and noticed they were interacting with us much more quickly,” says Tanya Roberts. The dogs were in front of their space and seemed to really enjoy this quiet space.”
The facility will also allow OHS to care for more animals rescued from natural and man-made disasters.
