The Sportswoman Living with Disability Award at the SOYA Awards Gala attracted five nominees led by Paralympian Nancy Cheragat. Nancy Cheragat won gold in her T11 400m race at the 2022 World Her Para Her Athletic Grand Prix and the 13th Fazza International Championships in Dubai.
With a gala scheduled for 20 January at KICC, Chelagat leads a list of nominees that includes Hellen Wawira, who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Also nominated for the coveted award is the Deaflympics athletics trio of Beryl Whamira, Lynette Nanjara and Sela Wangari.
Wamira won silver in the 4x400m relay at the Caxias do Sul Deaflympics.
Nanjara won silver in the 4x400m relay for Brazil and Wangari also won silver in the 10,000m for Brazil, opening a medal account for Kenya before winning bronze in the steeplechase.
