Pinellas school removes award-winning author Toni Morrison’s book | | January 26
One of the parents of one student in an Advanced Placement Literature class objected to Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye being taught, and now this classic novel by a Nobel Prize-winning author is being published in Pinellas County. Removed from all schools. what planet do i live on It’s interesting that this parent read Karl Marx’s intricate 19th-century economic theory thoroughly and concluded that 21st-century public schools are “Marxist training grounds.” To make such an assessment, you need to be familiar with Marx’s work, don’t you think?
As this article shows, if School Board member Stephanie Meyer’s sentiments were that books weren’t banned, just that they weren’t available in schools, she consulted the American Library Association’s website. and should be encouraged to better understand the ban on the book. equal Accurately remove books from classrooms and school libraries to make them unavailable there.
Pinellas County has a duty to students and the taxpayers who fund the county to have a healthier decision-making process. To do that, you can start by returning Morrison’s seminal books to school bookshelves. By not repeating this farce after another, it can continue. Learning cannot flourish and progress cannot be made when our schools become bastions of anti-intellectualism.

Pinellas school removes award-winning author Toni Morrison’s book | | January 26
A school in Pinellas County removed the book from its classroom as well as its library after one parent objected to Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye. As a former high school English teacher, I had to defend a book that parents deemed “harmful to minors.” These parents are missing an important point. The classroom is the perfect place to work on painful and difficult aspects of the human condition. Our trained teachers handle these issues with expertise and care. Therefore, she will not ban Jane Eyre for dealing with child abuse. We don’t ban The Great Gatsby just because it deals with marital infidelity. The Bluest Eye deals with pedophilia, so I won’t ban it. We work alongside our students to tackle problems and try to understand the dark side of humanity through fictional characters who seek to face and overcome them in order to survive and even thrive. Some of our students have experienced the dark side of humanity in their lives. Our book lets them know they are not alone.

DeSantis Proposes Allowing Death Penalty in Florida Without Unanimous Jury | | January 25
Can someone explain to me why Congress can ban abortion in 15 weeks because Republicans are in favor of life and death while at the same time Governor Ron DeSantis and allies want to loosen laws on the death penalty? I think they’ll agree if it’s really “pro-life” life In prison, not in death.

I thoroughly enjoyed the guest column by high school teacher Chris Fulton. Critical thinking skills are 98% lacking in a gray society. Too many leaders constantly advocate a position that presents problems as 1% black or 1% white solutions. I also try to wake up (wake up) and support leaders who unite and build, and oppose those who try to divide and dismantle. Thank you, Fulton, for your perspective and dedication to teaching our children to use their brains.

Florida Catholic Bishops: Defending Legal Protection for Life in Womb Must Continue | | Column, January 21
I think most people would agree that abortion is a terrible solution to a difficult problem. A difficult problem is unwanted pregnancies. God forbid that people should be expected to suppress their careless intentions regarding sex, or to use the many legal methods available to prevent conception. is a viable solution to prevent malnutrition and the need for abortion. Remember, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.

Florida Catholic Bishops: Defending Legal Protection for Life in Womb Must Continue | | Column, January 21
I want to scream when I read a column about Catholic bishops co-authored by many of the “most ministers” (are there any “least ministers”?). Here I am also reading an opinion by a single white man who wants to dominate women.
