Famous and innovative authors come to Exeter as part of a series of page-turning events to get more people to pick up books and enjoy reading.
The series begins February 16th and takes place every third Thursday of the month at the Devon & Exeter Institute (DEI) in Cathedral Close.
Exeter UNESCO City of Literature has joined the author series DEI and Rough Trade Book.
Running through June 15, Rough Trade Books Presents explores contemporary topics in an atmosphere of exchange, conversation and connection.
The series brings well-known and innovative authors to Exeter to interact with Devon professionals and event-goers in the intimate and beautiful setting of DEI’s library. Bookbag Bookshop, Exeter’s only independent bookstore, will be selling books, zines and brochures at the event.
After the Rough Trade Books presentation, the event will be transcribed into a Rough Trade Books brochure, created in collaboration with Craig, Rough Trade Books’ award-winning design team, and students from Exeter College. It will be available at DEI and independent bookstores.
Exeter was named a City of Literature by UNESCO in 2019 and retains that status permanently. By becoming a City of Literature, Exeter joins 295 other cities around the world that are part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and 42 cities that are City of Literature.
2023 marks the 5th anniversary of Rough Trade Books, and the series is part of many events taking place to celebrate the independent publisher.
Anna Cohn Orchard, Executive Director of the Exeter City of Literature, said: She is pleased to work with Rough Trade Books and her longtime partner the Devon and Exeter Institute to secure the space for these in-depth and thought-provoking conversations. ”
Emma Dunn, CEO of Devon & Exeter Institution, said: We believe in the power of literature to illuminate, illuminate and connect this line of contemporary conversation. ”
