Madison, Wisconsin — A photo exhibition exploring the relationship between gender, gender identity and rural life opened in Madison on Friday.
“Queering Rural Spaces” will be on display at the Arts + Literature Laboratory, 111 S. Livingston Street #100, through March 4, with a closing reception scheduled for February 25.
Curator Andy Adams said, “It’s important to show the breadth and diversity of people living across the country.” We focus on queer Americans.”
Artist Sarah Stellino said it began as a personal quest when she and her wife were contemplating whether to settle in Madison or return to the farm.
“I think quite a few people have experienced communities that may not be as prominent, but are still very strong and supportive. You have to be a little creative to find that community. ‘ she said.
