(WSVN) – A South Florida man who has spent a lifetime overcoming adversity shows how determination and perseverance can help craft the recipe for success. Share his story in today’s 7 Spotlight.

Running a restaurant is a tough job for anyone. But for Jaharvis Frazier, things get even more difficult.

Restaurant owner Jaharvis Frazier said: I take a deep breath and keep pushing. May you keep an open mind. Just try to find a way to adapt. “

Jaharvis has spent a lifetime learning how to adapt.

At age 2, he was diagnosed with meningitis.

He lost both his legs and his left arm, but his disability never stopped him from pursuing his dreams.

Jaharvis Frazier: “I try not to let anything be a burden. So I started doing little things at home and putting things together. I learned a lot from my uncles, aunts and grandmothers. .”

And that led him to the kitchen, where he found his love of cooking.

The walls of his new restaurant Grandma’s Kitchen in Coconut Creek are adorned with family photos that inspired Jaharvis.

Jaharvis Frazier: “Our two top sellers are catfish and fried ribs. We also have macaroni cheese, candied yams, collard greens, baked beans, fried chicken and pork chops.”

Enter Grandma’s kitchen and you’ll find Jaharvis behind the counter or in the kitchen.

From taking orders to cooking, if you need something done, Jaharvis will find a way.

    Jaharvis Frazier: ‘Light the oven.

He even has a way of breading these ribs.

Jaharvis Frazier: “I lean it against the fryer so it doesn’t slip. Most days I’m covered in flour.”

Jaharvis works up to 15 hours a day.

Every day brings new challenges, but he overcomes them.

Jaharvis Frazier: “I see every day as just a learning experience.”

A customer says that all his efforts have yielded some delicious results.

Brioncka Russell, Customer: “You know, the food is great.

Jaharvis Frazier: “Thank you, thank you.”

With each customer that stops by, Jaharvis understands the impact he’s making.

Jaharvis Frazier: “I feel like I’m proving that I’m doing the right thing.”

And his efforts have helped create the perfect recipe for success.
