A contest is coming up to encourage seniors to check out the activities available at community activity centers.
For the Love of Fun, organized by the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society, is a competition to win hearts with passports and see who can participate in the most activities.
“We want our members to reach a level of fitness that allows them to remain independent and exceed their personal health and fitness expectations,” said Maria Peretta, Executive Director of the Association for the Aged. .
Perretta says their fitness program offers many choices, so any member can achieve their optimal fitness goals by choosing the classes that best suit their interests and abilities. .
Lower impact classes include chair fitness or functional fitness. Those who enjoy a challenge can go with Dance Fit or Stay Fit 3, Perretta says.
There are classes for balance, coordination and posture, including flamenco, ballet and line dance.
Those who want a more holistic program can take Tai Chi and yoga classes that integrate the mind, body and spirit.
The Ridge Meadows Seniors Society operates two activity centers for adults 55 and older. The association’s mission is to provide services, facilitate the sharing of experiences, and improve the welfare of older people in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.
“Providing a truly positive experience requires a group of highly dedicated staff and volunteers. It’s an integral part of our goal of delivering,” said Perretta.
Each year, the center’s volunteers provide nearly 17,000 hours of service, offering a wide range of opportunities.
Now, Peretta hopes to see new faces at the center in addition to the previous members she hopes to see now that pandemic restrictions are over.
“We are working hard to get them back! Despite the difficult years of the past few years, RMSS is still here, a place, platform and opportunity to fully participate in life. ‘, she said.
The For the Love of Fun contest runs Monday, February 6th through Friday, February 17th with a grand prize of $100.
