Rochester Choral Society Celebrates 150th Anniversaryth The world premiere will take place on March 18, 2023.
At the showcase at Rochester Cathedral, Thomas Hewitt Jones’ Regards from Rochester will be performed for the first time.
“I was delighted when John Mountford asked me to do this piece for the very exciting 150th anniversary of the Rochester Choral Society. We decided it would be conducive to the text, and the result is a 10-movement oratorio that we hope will tell the story of the region, with sweeping melodies and angles where necessary,” says Hewitt. . – said Jones in his official press statement. “I have written it to be as engaging and musically interesting as possible. The Rochester Choral Society was founded in 1873.
“The Rochester Choral Society recently passed several important milestones, and 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of our first performance at Rochester Cathedral. We wanted to commission a new piece that is historically accurate, humorous and engaging, a work that reflects the diversity of the region’s cultural and social heritage with a connection and passion for Medway Towns.
