Bowling Green, Kentucky (WBKO) – The Scottsville Police Department received a grant through the Laura Turner Dugas Foundation to purchase 10 AngelSense tracking devices for distribution to members of the Allen County community.
AngelSense tracking devices are designed for parents and caregivers of persons with disabilities who are at risk of elopement. This means that the individual is in danger of wandering away from their caretaker or home and not being able to find their way home.
AngelSense user Haley Johnson said, “My son has autism and is at risk of running away from home. His doctor, PT, OT and all therapists are on hand in case he gets lost. , suggested that we obtain a device that would help us track him down.”
Scottsville Police say these devices are a resource the community has needed for some time.
“In Scottsville, we had a few instances of children with special needs getting lost, and we found them, but it’s really nice to have a device that works like this.” If they go missing, they can share that link with law enforcement so they can see a live view of their location at that point in time,” Scottsville Police Chief Darren Tabor said. rice field.
The device costs about $500 a year, Tabor said, but the grant will allow police to provide Allen County families with the device for a year. But if the need is big enough, the program could last for years to come.
“This is our first full year, so we’re going to play by ear. We’d love to get more devices if we need them. If we don’t need more devices, we’ll renew our contract.” Tabor said.
After using the device for two years, Johnson says it gives her and her family peace of mind, especially while traveling with her son.
“My mother took her son to Naples for spring break to visit a friend. She took my son and at one airport he broke the hand he was holding. Thankfully, with the app, she was happy to find him and get in touch with him,” says Johnson.
Scottsville Police say they still have the device available to the community, but the family must live within Allen County and have a letter from their doctor stating that they need the device.
“If you have a family interested in this, come see us, call us, check us out on Facebook and all the information is there. Glad to meet you and all We will consider the criteria for
