BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) -BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – On the Sun. In his January 1st edition of In Focus, WVVA spotlighted his society of non-profit Children’s Homes in West Virginia.
For over 125 years, this group has worked diligently to find homes for children in the Mountain State. He has 13 locations throughout the state, including the North and East Panhandles, Central and South West Virginia.
The nonprofit has several programs, including a program for grandparents and a program called WECAN that pairs children, teens, and mentors.
Mentors must be 18 years or older. Her mentee’s age is 4-17 years old. Learn more about.

WVVA’s Melinda Zosh interviewed Becky Brown, McDowell County’s WECAN Instructional Coordinator. She also interviewed Christine Kelly, her WECAN instruction coordinator for McDowell County. They talked about the importance of nonprofits in our area and how members of the community can get involved.
