Persons with disabilities who want to be trained in ICT skills and become entrepreneurs are eligible for working capital loans ranging from Tk 50,000 to Tk 10 lakh through the ICT Sector Startup Bangladesh Limited Project, said the Minister of State for the ICT sector. Zunaid Ahmed Palak said.
He announced that starting next year, he will hold entrepreneurial conferences and job fairs for people with disabilities.
Palak made the announcement on Saturday at the launch of the full-day Job Fair 2023 for people with disabilities organized by the Bangladesh Computer Council in partnership with the Center for Service and Information on Disability.
A total of 54 ICT-based organizations participated in the fair held at the office building of the NGO Department in the capital Agargaon.
The Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT sector have been organizing job fairs for the past eight years with the aim of providing dignified living and employment for persons with disabilities.
At the event, the ICT Minister emphasized the use of technology to banish all forms of discrimination and existing prejudices.
He called for better employment of educated and disabled people by making the most of technology, stating that the “Job Fair for Disabled Persons” will be a bridge between employers and job seekers. rice field.
The Minister of State said that we need to work towards the goal of enabling people with mental or physical disabilities to use technology to be self-sufficient rather than dependent on others.
He pointed out that the Talking White Stick was developed through the ICT Department’s A2I project for the blind.
“This white bar warns blind people before they touch or bump into other people or objects,” Palak said.
About 450 job seekers with disabilities from all over the country participated in the fair.
Previously, about 500 people with disabilities submitted their resumes online.
Organizations participating in the fair conducted interviews to recruit people with IT skills.
40-50 persons with disabilities are expected to find employment opportunities at this fair and 150-200 job seekers will be shortlisted from this fair for interviews for subsequent recruitment. .
