Questions have already been raised as to whether the government will issue residents a second cost of living check next year.
Those aged 18 and over who earned less than $100,000 were entitled to a $500 stipend to help meet the rising cost of living.
Benefit checks were a short-term solution to a long-term problem, as prices for essentials such as food and housing have not fallen.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says much has been done this year to address rising costs for those feeling the pinch.
She says they have increased income assistance and benefited 10% for seniors to provide long-term relief. She’s also reduced her daycare costs to $10 a day.
When it comes to whether the government will cut the cost of living further, Coady says that’s yet to be decided.
She said her ability to offer such benefits will depend on her financial situation over the next year. She assures them that they will do what they can to help people.
