Ann Arbor. Michigan (CBS Detroit) – Some of the Human Valley Human Society (HSHV) animals have been waiting for families for a long time. That’s why shelters are rolling out new initiatives to make adoption faster.
HSHV waives adoption fees for pets that stay longer than normal in shelters.
HSHV adoption manager Alison Burrow said, “We hope this will be the incentive that people need to consider these valuable animals.” Some may be just wallflowers that have been overlooked, but I think anyone who takes them into account has a heart of gold.”
Animals eligible for free adoption will have a gold heart on their online profile. Also featured on HSHV’s Gold Hearts Facebook group.

“Free adoptions are a great way to bring people to your door and see these animals,” says Balow. We save by not paying adoption fees or sterilizations or microchips, but we are constantly debating the lifetime costs of caring for potential companion animals.”
Each Gold Hearts animal is sprayed or neutered, microchipped, and given an initial health check and age-appropriate vaccinations.
HSHV hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 11 AM-6 PM, Thursday-Friday 11 AM-7 PM, and Saturday-Sunday 11 AM-5 PM. No appointment is required for adoption.
