Presque Isle, Maine (WAGM) – The Presque Isle Historical Society is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
Founded in 1963, the Presque Isle Historical Society is made up entirely of volunteers. According to Kim Smith, secretary and treasurer of the association, its mission is to study, promote and preserve the history, culture, heritage and relics of Presque Island. To celebrate this anniversary, the Historical Society will host several events over the next year. These events include a new free virtual online tour of the Maysville Museum, the Antique Car Club of America Car Show, Victorian Tea and a new Christmas House Tour. All events are free and open to the public. Smith said the celebration will shine a light on all that historic societies have to offer communities.
Kim Smith, secretary and treasurer of the PI Historical Society, said: And you know, we have a lot of new people in our city, but they’re still learning about our community, so they’re not necessarily aware of our existence or the services we offer. And I think we have something really great to offer the residents of this community for people of all ages – from elementary school students to the elderly. ”
Information about upcoming regular season and anniversary events at the Presque Isle Historical Society is available on the pihistory.org website. A Facebook event will also be created in advance of the 60th anniversary event. Here is the link to the new virtual tour of the Maysville Museum https://youtu.be/UAQHw6IonRg.
