As a nation, it is well known that we Bangladeshis have a particular fondness for art and literature.
We are people who recognize the importance of art, and it is not just a form of entertainment, but an integral part of what makes life worth living. From the storied history of Voi Mera to the emergence of new platforms and events, we celebrate literature like no other.
That is why Dhakalit Fest (DLF) has become a literary festival revered by intellectuals and literary enthusiasts alike across the board, attracting prominent local and international writers and artists during its ten years of existence. It is an incredibly humbling feeling to have established the position of Together we celebrate the arts and support cultures, literature and creativity around the world.
With the successful completion of 9 editions, the annual festival kicked off today at Bangla Academy, marking the 10th edition of the event and running until 8th January.
For DLF’s dedicated attendees, this year’s four-day festival is even more highly anticipated after a three-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
DLF, which was free until now, has introduced a ticket system from this time. While the move has proven somewhat controversial, it is nonetheless the right move in terms of keeping and really improving an event of this magnitude going forward.
DLF is not only a celebration of the written word, but also of all other forms of art. The event emphasizes the value of stories and ideas and opens a forum for open-minded discussion of real-life issues and topics through numerous events. Panels, discussions and activities.
With internationally acclaimed artists such as Abdulrazak Gurnah and a host of local creators, this year’s DLF offers something for everyone from all walks of life.
