
MINSK, December 28 (BelTA) – The Belarusian Embassy in collaboration with the All-Israel Belarusian Migrants Association organized a traditional Yanka Kupala reading in the Israeli city of Ashdod on December 28th. BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy.
The readings were dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas, classics of Belarusian literature. A literary reading was held ten years ago in a town square named after Janka Kupala, and a monument to him was erected in late 2015.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Ashdod Eli Nacht, leaders of local chapters, members of the All-Israel-Belarusian Immigrants Association, activists of the Belarusian community, Israeli poets and lovers of Belarusian classics.
In his speech, Belarusian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Yevgeny Vorobyov emphasized the outstanding contribution of both poets, who became one of the most famous founders of Belarusian literature, the founder of the Belarusian language and a true symbol of the nation. . He emphasized the special symbolism of this event, held in the year of historical memory celebrated in Belarus.
Participants of the event remembered the works of the national poets of Belarus, read their works and poems dedicated to them.
